Review: SPOT Bam-bones Plus from Ethical Products

Chewing is a common way for dogs to relieve stress. If they aren’t given the right tools…. or in this case toys to relieve that stress, they’ll probably find something of yours to chomp on like shoes or furniture. If you’ve got chewer on your hands then you should check out the Bam-bones Plus chew toys. Not only are they tough but they’re made from a unique blend of nylon and sustainable, renewable bamboo fibers. While using a renewable substance like Bamboo a responsible manufacturing practice, it also seems to create a unique texture that is very strong yet a little less rigid than regular nylon bones.

The first noticeable feature of the Bam-bones Plus is the powerful fragrance of beef or chicken flavor. This is a human grade flavoring that doesn’t contain any animal ingredients. The flavoring seems to be permeated throughout the Bam-bones Plus, not just applied topically like other flavored toys that are no longer used when the flavor disappears. The next obvious aspect we noticed was the Bam-bones' unique shape that features handles or paddles at the base for dogs to put their paws on. This keeps the toy upright for uninterrupted chewing time.

My testers immediately took to the Bam-bones without coaxing. They seemed to enjoy the shape and flavor and even after a few days of on an off chewing, there were indentations and tooth marks but otherwise very little damage. The wood-like texture is tough but it doesn’t seem to be as brittle as animal bones or antlers which we think makes it safer option. We also like the raised nubs on the upper portion of the toy which could help with plaque and tartar build-up.

For those inquiring minds that want to know, this chew toy does not pass the fingernail test but in our experience with the Bam-bones our testers showed no signs of oral distress by chewing on them. We think the reason is the bamboo blend which seems to make these toys a little easier on the teeth and gums than typical nylon bones.

Like all dog toys this one should be used under pet parent supervision. Nothing is indestructible and not all dogs play or chew the same way. Because of their furgonomic shape and their use of renewable natural bamboo in their manufacturing process, the SPOT Bam Bones Plus are also, Dogdad Approved.

Our Cookapoo is a year old, and we got her a Bam bone, within minutes of chewing it we notice small pieces on her cushions. Is it safe to give this to her to chew? I had to take it away from her as I did not want to swallow the pieces that looked and felt like plastic.

What is good about: "This is a human grade flavoring that doesn’t contain any animal ingredients" ? What chemical mixture is used instead of real animal flavors?

Just bought a Bam-Bone for our dog and he didn’t have it five minutes when we saw blood on it, it cut inside his mouth. Hard to find something for this dog which is Bullie, he tears things up within minutes.

Our little 15 lb terrier mix did significant damage to the bam bone. I would love to share a picture of just a few hours of chewing on this toy. She is eating the bone also. Should we be concerned?
