Chewing is a common way for dogs to relieve stress. While using a renewable substance like Bamboo a responsible manufacturing practice, it also seems to create a unique texture that is very strong yet a little less rigid than regular nylon bones.
The first noticeable feature of the Bam-bones Plus is the powerful fragrance of beef or chicken flavor. This is a human grade flavoring that doesn’t contain any animal ingredients. The flavoring seems to be permeated throughout the Bam-bones Plus, not just applied topically like other flavored toys that are no longer used when the flavor disappears. The next obvious aspect we noticed was the Bam-bones' unique shape that features handles or paddles at the base for dogs to put their paws on. This keeps the toy upright for uninterrupted chewing time.
My testers immediately took to the Bam-bones without coaxing. They seemed to enjoy the shape and flavor and even after a few days of on an off chewing, there were indentations and tooth marks but otherwise very little damage. The wood-like texture is tough but it doesn’t seem to be as brittle as animal bones or antlers which we think makes it safer option. We also like the raised nubs on the upper portion of the toy which could help with plaque and tartar build-up.
For those inquiring minds that want to know, this chew toy does not pass the fingernail test but in our experience with the Bam-bones our testers showed no signs of oral distress by chewing on them. We think the reason is the bamboo blend which seems to make these toys a little easier on the teeth and gums than typical nylon bones.
